Quite a lot of movies get released in every state and almost every language in India and quite a few of them are successful in box office too. But what eludes most of the Indian movies is the fame in the international stage. Having said that, there have been some movies that have made it big in the international screen as well. Let us look at some of them.

This movie is one of the earliest to attract the attention of international movie buffs. This was included as part of the list of 100 greatest movies of all times by the TIME magazine. The movie was released in 1951 starring the then famous Raj Kapoor and the story line focused on the social and economical differences in the society.

When there is a list of critically acclaimed films, it will not be complete without a movie from the great director Satyajit Ray. This movie released in 1955 created a whole new face to the idea of film making. It was also a movie that attracted critical attention from around the world and won the best human documentary award in the Cannes Film Festival, in 1956. It was also a winner of the BAFTA awards.

A tamil crime movie inspired by a true character, this movie was released in 1987 and is part of the all time great hits collated by the TIME magazine. This movie was also praised as a epic gangster movie by the TIME magazine. The movie was directed by Mani Ratnam and it featured Kamal Hassan in the lead.

4. Dil se:dil-se-original-imadym89cwjgtqwz

The movie released in 1998 won the Netpac award in the Berlin International Film Festival in 1999 and was directed again by Mani Ratnam. The lead roles were played by Shah Rukh Khan, Manisha Koirala and it was the debut movie for Preity Zinta.

An epic movie from Ashutosh Gowariker, this movie is among the most celebrated movies of all times for Indians. It was nominated for an academy award and was ranked in the list of best 100 movies in the world by Empire magazines. This Aamir khan starrer was also among the list of greatest films of all times, as listed by the TIME magazine.

6. Devdas:11644-Devdas (2002)

A movie by Sanjay Leela Bhansali with leads played by Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai and Shah Rukh Khan, it was nominated for the BAFTA awards and is part of the 100 best films in the world list by Empire magazines. It was also included in the top ten movies of the millennium by the TIMES magazine.

A movie in 2004, which was about the Mumbai blasts raised many eyebrows internationally with its brilliant narrative and acting. The movie received rave reviews from many international news agencies for its brilliance.

Another Aamir Khan starrer movie directed by Deepa Mehta, this movie was regarded highly for its universal content and earned its director a very good acclaim in the international cinema stage.
