You must have heard about the players who have made proud to our country and most of them are women. Earlier there was the time when women were not encouraged to study or to show their talent in sports. But now time has changed and its time when women are no less than men. Here are some women players who have made India proud:

1. Sania MirzaSania-Mirza-2

She is the renowned player of Tennis and well known not only nationally but globally.  During 2005, she was the only women who reached 4th round of the grand slam tournament. She also won Arjuna Award, Padam Shri Award during 2004 and 2006 respectively. During 2009, in Australia open she made a record by winning a doubles match against Mahesh Bhupathi. She also won many Medals for India and made it proud.

2. Saina Nehwal

She is a famous badminton player and rank 3rd in the whole world by Badminton World Federation. During Olympics, she was the only women who reached quarter finals of singles and she also won super series tournament during 2009 matches and made India feel proud.

She made her name in Cricket and she was the first Indian player among women who scored century in one day match held internationally. She is a left handed batsman and has played total 116 one matches and 12 test matches. She also won Arjuna Award in 2007 and gave a proud moment to India.

She has made her career as Wrestler and was the first women who reached Asian Games. She is from wrestling family as her father and brother was also wrestler. She currently lives in California with her husband Siddhartha Malik. Her contribution is very remarkable for India in Wrestling.

5. Tejaswini SawantWa-5366l

She is known as best shooting player and won many medals for India. During 2004, she participated in Sports Federation Games held in South Asia as Indian player. During 2006, she won gold medal in Common Wealth Games. During 2009, she contributed bronze medalto our country and during 2010, she became World champion and made India proud. She created her name not only in India but internationally in many countries.


These were few women players who have significant contribution towards our country and gave many proud moments.The days have gone when women used to sit at home and doing household things.They are on equal standing today as men and achieving success day by day. Their contribution is unforgettable as they gave a lot to this country. India as traveled long distance towards path of success in the field of sports like cricket, shooting, tennis, wrestling etc. and women has dominated men in every field.
