There are more than hundred ghats surrounding the river Ganga in Varanasi . Varanasi is one of the best place for pilgrimage. The city draws pilgrims who bathe in the holy water of River Ganga and perform funeral rites .It has built beautiful ghats seeing to its religious demands .We shall talk about some of these ghats in details .

1. ASSI GHAT :

The point where the Ganges and the Assi river meet has been named as Assi Ghat .It is not much chaotic as it is located at the extreme south eastern end of the main ghats. Assi ghat is a wanted ghat for hindus. Before worshipping Lord Shiva pilgrims bathe there is form of huge LINGAM under any near by pipal tree. For long staying tourists this ghat is of great interest .It has got few interesting shops and cafes.

2. DARBHANGA GHAT :

Darbhanga Ghat is the best loved ! It is both architecturally and visually very impressive and appealing. This ghat features a palace built in the early 1900s by the Royal Family of Bihar .MUNSHI Ghat is adjoining to it which was constructed in 1912 by Sridhara Narayana Munshi , the finance minister of Darbhanga .

3. CHET SINGH GHAT :

Chet Singh Ghat has a historical importance with it .The battle between Maharaga Chet Singh and the British took place at this ghat during the 18th century .An old fort present there marks the spot of his defeat .

4. DASASWAMEDH GHAT :

This ghat is heart of action and also top attraction of the city .This is the famous ghat where the Ganga Aarti takes place every evening . Carnivals of goings on , with hindu priests , flower , beggars and sellers from dawn till dusk is crazy to look at .People love to sit for hours without getting bored.

5. MAN MANDIR GHAT :

This ghat is worth checking out its marvelous Rajput architecture and also one of the oldest Varanasi Ghat. In 1600 Maharajah Man Singh of Jaipur built his palace there Also Sawai Jai Singh II constructed an observatory in the 1730s .The astrological instruments are still good to put up with till now. View of both the bank of river Ganges is fabulous to look at.
