It is also known by the name Banaras which is a north Indian city situated on the banks of Ganges in Uttar Pradesh. It is spiritual capital of India, holiest of the seven sacred cities that can provide moksha to individual. Varanasi was found by Lord Shiva as per the legends. Varanasi has more than 800 temples. Letâ€™s discuss some of them that will blow your mind:
1. Nepali temple
It is also known as Kathwala temple that was built by King of Nepal on Lalita Ghat in Nepali style. You will be able to experience some really impressive ability of woodwork. No other temple can be compared in India because of its beautiful elaborative architecture. This temple is entirely made by Nepali workers; every detailed carving on the sculptures was taken care by them. The wood used for the temple was brought from Nepal and it is such a brilliant quality of wood that there is no risk of termites. You will find a statue of Nandi outside the Garbagriha. There is also a beautiful Shivling called Pashpatinath Mahadev located inside the Garbagriha.
2. Gauri Kedareshwar temple
A Brahmachari devotee of Lord Shiva named Vasishta used to perform every Linga Pooja. He used to visit Kedareshwar temple in Himalayas every Purnima of Chaitra month that is the month of March or April. When his Guru expired he started living in Kashi But he used to visit to the Kedareshwar temple in Himalayas for praying Lord Shiva. Then he became helpless because of his age, so he started praying lord Shiva at Kashi. Â Lord Shiva became happy from his devotion and placed himself there in the form of Kedareshwar.
3. Sri Durga Devi Mandir
This is one of the most important temples of Varanasi, also known by the name monkey temple. As explained by the name this temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga. It was built in 18th century by Bengali maharani in Nagara style. It is built in stained red colour having mutitiered spire. As per the history of the temple the Goddess Durga protects the city from south. The statue of Goddess Durga in this temple is not made by any human being rather it appeared on its own as Swayambhu in the temple.
4. Sankat Mochan temple
It is a heavenly important temple of Varanasi surrounded in the southern allotment of the city. It is devoted to Shri Pawanputra Hanuman. You can find this temple very crowded with admirers and devotees of Hanuman offering prayers on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Kishkindha Kanda and Sunder kanda of Ramcharitamanas are recited every Tuesday and Saturday.
5. Tulsi Manas temple
It is located near Durga temple which was built in 1964 with white marbles. The landscape around the temple makes it more magnificent. On the walls of this temple you can find the engravings of verses and drawings of scenes of Ramcharitamanas. It is said that it was written here by Tulsidas. Temple is closed in the afternoon between 2:00pm to 3:30 pm.
