The Indian Armed Forces is comprised of the Indian Army, the Indian Air Force, and the Indian Navy. It is the third largest standing force in the world, behind USA and China and are the people who keep our country secure and free from all the enemies. Their valor and sense of duty for the country are the things why they are so adored and respected. Though we know many about their triumphs and contributions for the country, still it does not stop amazing us whenever we hear some amazing facts of them. Here are the seven facts of the Indian Army that will increase the respect for them.
1. Cavalry Regiment
A personnel riding on a horseback in a war holds a higher rank and a respectable one in the military. These are the real stories of ancient battle and history. But, due course of time, everything has changed especially after the evolution of technology. Today, power is no more calculated having a cavalry regiment. Only three countries in the world still hold on this cavalry regiment out of which India being one of them.
2. Operation Rahat
The biggest civilian rescue mission in the world was Operation Rahat, which was carried out in 2013. There was a heavy flood in Uttarakhand affecting some civilians. The operation was carried out by the Indian Air Force evacuating people, including residents and tourists. The whole operation was carried out using only helicopters. They have airlifted a total of about 20,000 people and dropped relief material and equipment of 3,82,400 kg.
3. Covert Nuclear test
India has tested its nuclear arsenal in early 1970 and late 1990. The mission was covert and goes successfully unrecognized by other secret services like CIA. Though much data remain classified about this, still it is known as the biggest failure of CIA till date.
4. Biggest Voluntary army in world
All Military personnel in India has opted the job personally. No one has ever been forced to join the forces. In Indian Constitution, there is a provision for forced recruitment but has been never used. Knowing the respect and pride, thousands of people turns up to join each year making it the biggest voluntary army all over the world.
5. Controlling the highest battlefield in the world
The Siachen Glacier is the highest battlefield in the world. Located in the Karakoram Range, it is 5000 meters above sea level. Though disputed by the Pakistan over the Kashmir, the place is strongly under the control of the Indian Army.
6. No provision for Reservation
Nowadays, India is quite recognized due to its reservation system. The seats are reserved for SC, ST and physically disabled persons in various areas like government jobs and institutions. Indian army is the only place where you will find no reservation. Only the qualified one gets the place.
7. Built the highest bridge in the world
The highest elevated bridge in the world is the Baily Bridge. It is located in the Himalayan Mountains. Built in the Ladakh Valley, the bridge is above the river of Dras and Suru. The bridge is 30 meters long with an altitude of 5,602 meters above sea level. The strange thing is the bridge is built by no architect, but by the Indian army in the year of 1982.
